Recently visited Lyon with my friends :) I wasn’t sure what to expect as it was my first time visiting, but Lyon turned out to be awesome. Definitely one of the better mid-size cities in Europe I’ve been to. Also, as we came from Paris, I loved the tranquility we experienced in Lyon compared to the restless Paris.
The weather was nice when we visited, and we really loved the old town vibes it had. Food scene at Lyon was great, and I would love to go back one day to revisit lots of places and try new ones :)
Flyling Tom at Bowl de la Guillotière.
Places I/We loved
Had an absolutely amazing dinner here, perhaps the best meal I had. We spent almost four hours at the restaurants but it felt like an hour. We had an 8-course signature menu. They specialize in Korean-influenced French cuisine, and it was evident that every component was thoughtfully prepared. Everything was delicious, and the service was extremely professional. It was a profound experience, so I will write a separate post on this place when I get a chance.
In short, it’s definitely worth a visit :)
We had a long, peaceful lunch here, and it was a delight. Will follow up a separate post as well, but really loved the time we spent here :)
We returned a couple of days after for breakfast after having a pleasant experience with their lunch. However, I liked the breakfast combo, but my friends thought they were way too sweet and couldn’t finish everything.
Really liked their plate sets and the tea pot :)
The best quiche in France award goes to Slake Coffee House :) We had many many quiches in France, but none could come close to this one. Also great coffee and cool interior.
Lots of draft beer/drink selections and board games!
Parc Sergent Blandan
A bit off from the main “Lyon area”, but this was a really cool park. It’s nice to walk around, skate, and go on a big playground.
Nice places We visited
Good place to visit for snacks/brunch/coffee. Near a cute park in a quite neighborhood.
Great place to try traditional Lyonnaise cuisine. Anthony Bourdain shot a part of Lyon episode here. Food was great, but dessert was too sweet that I couldn’t eat more than two bites. Also it seemed they were understaffed.
We visited this lively Irish Bar on St. Patrick’s Day! It was very crowded but we got our beers super quickly. The live music was great and we had a good time.
Cool market in Lyon. Lots of things to try, nice place to visit during the day before everything closes.
We spent a bit of time here before our dinner reservation at
La Passe Temps. The barista/server was very kinda and I got to try some good French draft beer :) Cozy and warm interior.
Places I want to visit next time
Had to cancel our reservations as we couldn’t fit it into our schedule.
See right above.
Looks like a cool bar!
Restaurant Le Musée
La Boîte à Café
Many restaurants/markets are closed on weekends/Monday in Lyon! Might want to plan accordingly.
Separate blog posts on
Le Passe Temps and
Le Kitchen Cafe.
